Wexford: Project update

The spec house in Wexford is coming along quiet fast, which is great. We are fully framed, plumbed, heating installed, and all the electrical is complete. Now we are waiting...and waiting...and waiting for the windows. They are scheduled to be delivered next week (3 weeks behind schedule), once that happens they will be installed and then we can continue with the construction of the home. Exterior cladding and the insulation and drywall...then the fun stuff starts.

As you enter the front door you can see the Juliet balcony that is on the second level, once the curved railing and spindles get in place it will be a great focal point.

I think this is going to be one of my favourite areas of the home. It is a library that goes from the great room to the home office. I designed a built-in from floor to ceiling c/w shaker style post details that will hold beautiful sconces (I just need to find the perfect ones).

The kitchen may not look it, but it is quiet large and the 10' ceilings will only help the space feel roomy. I am really excited about the kitchen drawings I have done for this home, with all professional built-in appliances it is going to be the jewel of the home.

And check out that view from the back of the home. The kitchen, nook, and great room will all take advantage of the beautiful countryside.

I hope to be able to update you again in a couple of weeks with some of the color & material selections as well as new photos showing the windows and drywall in place, it will really change the look of the home. Until then have a great day and enjoy the view from where you are at! Mel xo

Knock Knock

Thank you Backen, Gillam & Kroeger Architects for this amazing home in Napa Valley, at just over 10,000 Sq. Ft. I know that I can make it a nice cozy home. It will also accommodate all of my family, and that in itself is a feat. Enjoy this tour...

We can enjoy a bottle of Anomaly inside or by the fire on the patio, which would you prefer?

I love the rustic feel with the exposed wood beams and weathered ceiling, such a great environment for a game of Apples to Apples or Cranium.

I love this and I really have nothing else to add, except that I would love t create beautiful food in this kitchen surrounded by family & friends.

I love how the ceiling detail is carried through to the bathroom as well, and notice the Nanna Wall in the background, wait till you see what is there...

I think this is my all time favorite shower, no fancy shower heads and body sprays required here!

And here is what you will see as you depart the property from the rear view mirror (in a cute vintage Mercedes convertible), hope you enjoyed your time.

I love virtual entertaining, the main reason...I have nothing to clean up! Here is to a great finish to your week. Mel :)

Gotta love my cleints...

I really have the best clients ever. Between the ones on the Internet and those that we are building for I am just surrounded by fabulous people who all have very specific and definite taste, no one is alike, and that is what keeps me on my toes! Yesterday I received an e-mail from my clients that we are building for. I asked her to send me her inspiration for the kitchen so I can get started on the design process. Here is what she sent me...

Now can you see why I adore her? I am going to be tossing the idea at her for beautiful gray vanities for the mast bath, simple white marble counter tops, possibly a nice clean lined free standing tub, beautiful mosaic tile flooring, and shiny chrome accents to finish it off. After seeing her inspiration I am even more inspired to get this going!

We are enjoying a massive heat wave during our last week at our cabin, 101F is the expected temp today. We will not complain once since I know in a matter of weeks we could be shoveling snow back home. If you are in the heat take a moment to enjoy it, if you can. Mel :)

Off to the architect for finals...

Rob & I finally sat down last night and went over the plans for the new house. It is such a relief to send them off to the architect so the process can begin. I will admit that while we have been down at the cabin it really hasn't crossed my mind, but I am sure when we will be in the final stages of completing it I will be saying 'Why didn't we start this sooner, we could be in by now!!'. The images below are little snapshots from our plans...

There were just a few modifications to be made to the main and upper levels. It essentially is our current home just enlarged here & there, that did make the design process quiet easy. I am still stumped on which entry door that I talked about HERE to use...you guys are at a 50/50 split right now. Any more insight??

The lower level on the other hand needed to be overhauled. We knew our requirements; a bar, large wine cellar, exercise room, recreational room, and at least 2 guest bedrooms along with ample storage for my ridiculous holiday decor collection.

Now that they are off for final revisions Rob can get started on cutting in the road and home location when he heads back next week. Super exciting, but for me it means that I have to get our exterior color selections and materials nailed down ASAP. On that note I am off to find inspiration.

Enjoy your Monday and I hope that the weekend treated you well! Mel :)
