Fortunately, it comes with a large retractable handle that allows two people to carry it. Besides, it comes with four rolling casters, and hence the user can move it without lifting it off the ground.

Power and Dehumidification Capacity

The Meaco DD8L-ZAMBEZI does an excellent job in removing eight liters, or 17 pints of moisture from your indoor atmosphere in a day.

  • This desiccant dehumidifier is designed to work in areas measuring between 3000 and 4500 square feet, thus making it a perfect pick for dehumidifying large conservatories.
  • It comes with an air filter that prevents dust and debris from accessing the inner parts of the unit, which would otherwise compromise its functionality.
  • The ionizing filter also serves the all-important function of trapping airborne pollutants like dust and bacteria, and thus it doubles as an air cleaner.
  • This unit has an automatic humidistat that monitors the relative humidity in your indoor environment and subsequently adjusts its fan speed to maintain the ideal RH levels.
  • It has a 40dB noise output on low fan speed and 50dB on the highest setting; thus, it’s perfect for people who desire white noise, especially when sleeping.

We Noticed: During testing this dehumidifier’s electricity usage, we found it ranges between 40, 350 and 650 watts depending on the fan speed.

Setup and Usability

  • The unit comes with a simplistic D-pad consisting of up, down, left and right dials.
  • The unit also comes with an LCD screen that displays RH levels, room temperature, and timer settings, which enables the users to make appropriate adjustments easily.
  • This dehumidifier features an on/off and daily run timer that gives the user complete control over their unit. With this feature, you can control your power usage.
  • It also comes with a 20+ control feature that increases the fan speed when the RH levels rise with 20% above the user’s chosen level.
  • The auto-restart feature, coupled with the continuous drain mode, allows this dehumidifier to operate efficiently without stopping or constantly requiring the user’s input.
  • The air outlet comes with air deflectors that allow users to direct clean, dry air to different areas of their home.

Mode of Drainage

  • Manual Mode

This method requires the user to remove the three-liter reservoir and empty the condensate into a sink. They may need to empty the tank several times a day because the unit extracts 8 liters of moisture while the reservoir holds only 3 liters of the condensate.

  • The Continuous Mode

With this method, users can connect a hose on the drain port at the back of the unit and allow the unit to empty the condensate directly into a floor drain.

Cleaning and Maintenance

The Meaco DD8L-ZAMBEZI is pretty easy to clean and maintain. It simply requires the user to wipe its exterior parts with a damp cloth to maintain it’s neat appearance, clean the filter every two weeks to maintain its optimal efficiency.

The condensate reservoir comes with an anti-mold coating, and hence cleaning it isn’t much of a necessity. However, a little scrub in a while will go a long way in removing condensate residuals.

Key Take-Away: This is an intelligent desiccant dehumidifier that offers an excellent performance as compared to your conventional compressor units. Users shouldn’t worry about spilling the condensate because of the anti-spill baffles and the swivel handles with which the tank is fitted.

  • Continuous Mode

Cleaning this dehumidifier is not a pain. It requires the user to wipe the exterior parts with a damp cloth to prevent dust accumulation. They also need to turn their unit off and remove the filter from the back of the air inlet grill and clean it with a vacuum cleaner and brush attachment.

Users should also clean the air inlet grille to remove any debris and dust that may otherwise hinder the efficient flow of air throughout the unit, or even cause overheating.

What Causes Condensation in Your Conservatory?

Conservatories are inherently designed to be waterproof and airtight, which also implies that they’re susceptible to condensation. This often occurs during the winter when the temperature outside begins to drop; this is when most people increase the heat indoors. The rising temperature inside your home coupled with minimal ventilation could lead to moisture buildup in the air.

When this moisture hits the cold window sills and frames in the conservatory, it may turn into water (condensation). Among the surest ways of combating condensation in your conservatory include appropriate ventilation, refraining from drying laundry in this area, limiting the number of plants in this space and purchasing a dehumidifier.

Features of a Good Dehumidifier for Your Conservatory

Energy Saving Features: Such features include different operation modes that trigger the fan mode to turn on automatically when the moisture level rises and off upon reaching a certain level of humidity. This will allow you to run your dehumidifier without digging too much into your pocket.

Auto-Restart Function: This feature will allow your unit to recall your current settings in the event of a power outage or restart. This way, your dehumidifier will resume running without requiring your input, which facilitates continuous operation.

Continuous Drainage: If your conservatory is suffering from excess condensation, you will want a unit that can operate during the night. This feature requires that you attach a hose to the dehumidifier, allowing the condensate to bypass the water tank and discharge directly into a sink or drain.

The Timer Function: This feature enables you to set the duration within which you want your unit to operate. This will ultimately save you significantly on energy bills.

Auto-defrost Function: Since the temperature in your conservatory is likely to dip to insanely low levels, you will want to invest in a unit that operates effortlessly in chilly environments without getting damaged. This is where desiccant dehumidifiers come in handy, with the majority being able to work in areas whose temperature goes as low as 41 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Bottom Line

It’s not unusual to find conservatories suffering badly from condensation, which is probably because they’re much cooler than your conventional room.

In the winter, your conservatory is likely to get extremely cold, which triggers the moisture in your indoor air to settle on its glass and framework. You will, therefore, want to invest in a good moisture absorber, preferably one suited to cooler temperatures such as a desiccant dehumidifier.
